Explore Borneo : My Eid Mubarak 1432H Celebration

My purpose when I decided to go to Samarinda was to see ‘Takbiran’ Celebration in there. I heard that Eid Mubarak celebration in Samarinda is much alive compared with Palangka Raya. I am not a Moslem that why I didn’t know about indeterminancy of Eid Mubarak day this year. But, because of that I could see ‘Takbiran Night’ celebration twice on 29th and 30th of August.

Islamic Center in side of Mahakam River
The first ‘Takbiran Night’ was in Samarinda. I spent my time from evening to night at side of Mahakam River near the Islamic Centre. It was nice to hang out there because there are green zone and children playground along the river. There was no building except a Mosque that held food bazaar at their parking lot every evening in fasting month called ‘pasar wadai’.

Maybe most of Moslem at Samarinda also had a thought that next day was Eid Mubarak. They started their Takbiran Night near 7 P.M. Me and my friends sat at park bench across the Islamic Centre, that was perfect place to see the celebration while did culinary tour because  there were many hawkers there. The parade trucks and pickups with their Eid Mubarak decoration and giant sound system passed by in front of us and the fireworks in the night sky above us. It was awesome!

Takbiran Night at Tenggarong
Next day when most of people followed government decision to held the Eid Mubarak on August 30th, there was nothing to do there. We didn't want to stay idle or did shooping ata that time so we decided to go away from Samarinda to Tenggarong. My friend's acquaintance said that we didn't really go to East Kalimantan if we haven't visited Tenggarong yet. Fortunately, my college friend family live there and when I contacted her, she was suggesting us to go to her family house at Loa Kulu, the sub district of Tenggarong.

Again, at night we celebrated takbiran night but now in Tenggarong. Takbiran night at Tenggarong was beautiful. We and maybe most of the citizen hanged around in town by motorcycle. What I like the most at that town was their plaza around the Tenggarong bridge which have long walking track, small concerto stage, food bazaar and small island in the middle of Mahakam river called Kumala Island.

My friend family and Me :D
In the Eid Mubarak day, we were gathered with my friend family members. That was so touching and I felt that I was doing home coming to. Suddenly that moment remained me to my big family that were celebrating Eid Mubarak far from there..
