February Travel Notes (Part 1)
02/01/2012
My journey started from Palangkaraya to Mendawai via Sebangau river - Java sea - Katingan river by speedboat. Actually this journey was for my office business to socialize our new program in six villages for 14 days and the most important thing was that was my first long trip since I was in my office. The other important thing is 90% of this trip is river trip.
Sebangau river
Sebangau river have typical peat swamp water, dark brown color (like coke I think), and can be use as a mirror if you forget to bring yours
SSI camp
One of station in National Park area often used for research and re-greening activity. This camp has one wooden observation tower
Rasau plant
Plant species from Pandanaceae family. The common scenery through Sebangau river. At some part of river, the giant group of Rasau cover most of the river body and may trap your speedboat if your driver not careful
Coastal Area
Dominated by mangrove and as far I could see, no sandy beach.
02/02/2012
Arrived at Mendawai village, the capital of Mendawai regency after stayed one night at Mekar Tani village, one of transmigration village in Mendawai.
03/02/2012
Bulan river area, we stayed at Sebangau NP resort station for 3 days and 2 nights because our main activity was in Tumbang Bulan village that separated from the resort station by Katingan river.
Bekantan (Proboscis monkey)
That was my first time seeing that species in wildlife. We used boat along the Bulan river to go upstream around 4 until 5 pm (the time for them to search for their sleeping tree) and 5 until 7 am (the time to start feeding activity). We found 4 group of Bekantan around Bulan river estuary
Foggy morning
Unfortunately, I couldn't take good picture of this foggy morning. That scenery was so amazing and creepy at the same time
Antique tray
Maybe It just my opinion, but really, the idea of that tray was so cool. Put your hands up if you agree with me.
Floating Grocery
Medium wooden boat was transformed into floating grocery that cross the river, come to every villages along the river. Don't worry, they have complete daily need that villager searching for.
