Finally, after spending many weekends with just for fun activities and almost killed my self in the concert crowd, last weekend I did something that little bit different. I did voluntary work as a facilitator for Indonesian-Hongkong student activity. Back to my undergraduate school life, voluntary work was one of my favorite activity especially if it is related to environmental activity. Based on my experience, involved in voluntary work will increase our concern about our community, we will be nicer, and kinder person because we learn how to help the other willingly and in addition, we can challenge our creativity.

This activity was held by my friend's NGO (Non Government Organization) that concern in environmental education, one of their activity is give elementary school students environmental education. They often have an event like combining between foreign and local student to learn about our environment together. In my opinion, this kind of event is good for local student to improve their confident as well as their foreign language as early as possible. That opportunity is important for our youth to face for globalization that already happen now.

Back to this event, we gather several elementary school students to meet with senior high school student from Hongkong. They came to Indonesia to spend their holiday to learn about nature as well as Indonesia culture. One of their activity was hangout with Indonesian kids. My duty as a facilitator mainly was to be a translator for both parties and help them to create good learning environment. Fortunately, my study group was really active. I didn't find any difficulties to guide them during our activity. The kids learned about English and Chinese name of several animals that they like and part of a plant. At the end of our study, we performed collaboration performance. We prepared two kind of performances, the first one was short role play about our nature based on what we learnt before. The second performance was mix-culture performance, the kids sang Indonesian children song and the Hongkong student translate the meaning of the song to Chinese. Guess what? We won the first prize!!!!

So, sometimes we (I refer to the youth) need to spend our spare time to do something beneficial like voluntary work. Have you involve in one voluntary work? Let show our passion and creativity to the world!!!
