Tangkiling

Tangkiling is the name of natural recreation park which is consisted of several rocky hills that take place about 35 kilometer from the downtown of Palangkaraya. There are nine hills namely Baranahu, Kalalawit, Tabala, Tunggal, Bulan, Buhis, Liau, Lisin, and the highest hill Tangkiling. Maybe, I can say that Tangkiling is the highest place on that area even its high only reach not more than 200 meter above sea level. Besides that, Tangkiling also the only rocky place near Palangkaraya that mostly is formed from peat land. Because of that reason, based on my friend story, the numbers of the summit gradually decrease due to rock mining that is usually used for construction material for Palangkaraya resident. Although the status of Tangkiling hills is conservation area but you still can see rock mining activity there.

However, Tangkiling is one of Kaharingan sacred place. You can find several Kaharingan temples over the area. Not only Kaharingan people that use Tangkiling area as their sacred place but also Catholic Rome community have monastery there. Still based on my friend story, who spend his youth for climb most of the rocky hills there, there is one sacred temple that is owned by famous person from Banjarmasin and he is a moslem.
Apart from religious side of Tangkiling, it also has beautiful scenery. If you climb up until the top of the hill, you can see the landscape of Palangkaraya with Kahayan river in the distance. on the top of the hill, there are two big stone with the small temple on the top of one of them. If you want, you can spend one night there, sleep under the moon, the star, and the sky (but please avoid the smoke period that usually turn up on August until November).
