Highest Suicide Rate

Firstly, sorry if the topic is little bit scare.
This morning, I had a class related to sustainability issue and suddenly my professor brought up the current rate of suicide in this country. His purpose was to give us the example that our societies situation is not healthy and tried to explain that unhealthy situation because of the out of order condition of our environment (since my major is related to environmental science). Anyways, what I want to share is that number of suicide rate its self.

Australia Network News in early January 2013 wrote that over 32 people out of 100,000 people die because of suicide in South Korea. Another source mention that 15,566 people suicide in 2010, up to 50% from 2006. South Korea has the highest suicide rate among countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation (OECD) followed by Tokyo. The suicide rate in South Korea is 2.4 times greater than OECD average of 12.8 suicides per 100,000 people. That is scary coz most of leading countries in Asia have the same situation.

The reason may varied depend on the age class. But the underline thing here is some of people said that suicide is one of problem solution here. Instead of wasting the time just for doing life without meaning or live in the stressful life, people come up with one decision...suicide.

Mapo Bridge from Youido Hangang Park

One of places in Seoul that reported to be the place where people commit suicide is Mapo bridge. I have been seen the bridge before from the nearest park in the han river side. When I took the picture above that showed the park scenery with Mapo bridge as a background connected north side to south side of Seoul, I never imaged that the thing that I thought was beautiful, brought refreshment for my mind after a week stuck in the lab, have different meaning for someone else. The place that brought good memory to me is become the last place for someone else in their life.

Every living thing have their own rules and purposes in their life. Let's keep our spirit up and keep smile.
