Let's eat !
Hii guys, do you like to try any kind of food while you are traveling or your hobby is culinary? Me too. You know the proverb that said 'where ever ground is stood on, the sky is hold high' (where ever we live, we must observe local custom). One way to observe local custom is by trying those place local food and then try to adapt with it.
I don't really remember since when, I started to not be picky with food (maybe since I live separated from my family). Then I am trying to enjoy local food which is sometimes really hard in the beginning. But due to several times moving from one place to another, I found my self to be easily adapt with local taste.
Okay, forget about my story, now let's move to the main part...maybe some of you fell little bit uncomfortable with food when you are in Korea (for example, you are forbid to eat beef or pork or you have an allergy with shrimp or tuna), on the other hand, you get bored just eat mushroom bibimbab (mix rice with vegetable) or other vegetarian food. May I offer one of good solution? chicken. Yeah, you can try to eat chicken since there are many food in Korea (not only Korean food) that use chicken as a main ingredient. Chicken here is less expensive compare with beef as well as pork.
I will shared to you several option to enjoy chicken in Korea, I don't really discuss the price since expensive or cheap is relative but I am going to provide the approximate price based on my experience.
1. chicken lunch box.
The picture is one of example of luxurious lunch box that I ever ate which is contain full of meat with a big size. Off course, this kind of lunch box is little bit expensive (around KRW 12000-15000). But don't be sad, there are lot of lunch box restaurant which provide cheaper but still delicious lunch box but then instead of smoked chicken, that lunch box just has fried chicken (the price is around KRW5000).
2. chim dak

At the first time, this food remained me with 'semur ayam' (soybean sauce chicken) which most of my friends also thought that way. Andong chim dak is the most famous chim dak (Andong is refered to one region name in South Korea) but don't worry you can also eat this delicious food in Seoul too. Usually it served in very big plate so we need more than 1 person to finalize it. The other think is, this food has a level of spiciness. So if you really like spicy food, asked the 'hot' one.
3. samgyetang

This is probably one of the healthy chicken menu that I ever tried. It basically 1 piece of chicken that is filled by rice, nuts and of course ginseng. It can help to maintain your stamina esspecially in this cold weather. There is one famous samgyetang restaurant called Tosokchon (토석촌) where you must stand in long line to get in if you come in the meal time but then the taste of samgyetang here is really good.
4. grilled chicken (dak galbi)
there are several type of dak galbi but grilled dak galbi with carcoal is my favorite. Guess why? because this food remains me with 'satai ayam'. because of grilled with carcoal, it has very good smell which can make you become hungry. How to eat it? if you want to try it using korean way, put it on 1 piece of lettuce, add some sauce called ssamjang (쌈장), garlic, and kimchi and wrap it then eat.
5. chicken ddeokbokki

Do you like ddeokbokki? There are many ways to eat ddeokbokki and this is one of them. I tried this food longtime ago at Gangnam area. Usually ddeokbokki just contain ddeok, noodle, vegetable, dumpling, and egg but some of ddeokbokki house try to modify their menu to attract customers, like me.
6. octopus chicken galbi

Another type of dak galbi which instead of grilled, it is sauteed. If you like seafood, you can have both seafood and chicken in 1 pan. There is 1 franchise dak galbi house that my friends and I often visited and that franchise already opened their store in my country.
